Comparing Showmax’s The Wife to Dudu’s Hlomu Series

Comparing Showmax’s The Wife to Dudu’s Hlomu Series

Before y’all start with us, we are fully aware that the television series is inspired by the books. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s start.

It was obviously not going to be that easy to make die hard Hlomu stans forget about the characters that author Dudu Busani-Dube created and made us fall in love with throughout the five books in the series so far. If you know a ‘series cult’ then trust me you Hlomu Stans are on a league of their own. In fact we’ve been calling for a television adaptation for years now. So when it came, we were over the moon because we wanted to see what we had imagined in our heads come to life.

There obviously was a lot of forgiving we had to do along the way, especially because there was no way any casting agent would find the exact same characters Dudu so intricately created in real life. We understood and we forgave. In fact for me all I really wanted was fire acting, the story coming to life.

Here’s what we found on our first watch instead. On this review I feature my fellow Hlomu Stan, Bookish Nonhly (I’ve linked her channel for you to easily find our take on the actual television series production and acting.)
