I lowkey follow these prizes because to a very large extent the authors who make it to the long and shortlist often intrigue me.
Today Jonathan Ball Publishers announced the shortlist for this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction , let’s start with the longlist shall we, this was announced a little over a month ago, and here are the books and authors who were on that list.
This number has been cut to 6. This year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction is the first year since 2005 that the prize has shortlisted only first-time nominees. The winner will be announced on 7 July 2021.
Personally I own only 2 of the books in the shortlist, namely Yaa Gyasi’s Transcendent Kingdom and Brit Bennett’s The Vanishing Half, which are both on my TBR for this year. I’d love to get my hands on How The One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House by Cherie Jones, hopefully this year still, I’ve tightened my belt on book buying this year, lol, don’t laugh.
Who are you rooting for?
